PHIL 301 -- RESEARCH PAPER
This is a take-home paper assignment. The paper should be around 3000 words (8 to 10 pages), 12 points - double spaced. A wordcount should appear on the front page of your paper. It should fulfill the requirements of an argumentative paper. Typically: YOU HAVE TO DEFEND A SPECIFIC THESIS, and your paper should follow the format: introduction, paragraphs-arguments, and conclusion. To see what I expect from your paper, you can also consult my grading guide and the grading sheet (link on main course web page) . - THE RESEARCH PROPOSAL IS DUE ON 3/3: turn it in in class or in my mailbox by 6pm. The research proposal contains a title, a thesis statement, an outline and a bibliography. It will count for 5 points in your final grade. - THE PROGRESS REPORT IS DUE ON 4/9. A progress report is 2 to 4 pages long and is an precise outline of your paper. It will count for 10 points in your final grade. - You will have to give a presentation of your paper around mid-april. It will count for 10 points in your final grade. - THE FINAL VERSION OF THE PAPER IS DUE ON 4/28. After the 28th, GRADES WILL BE LOWERED BY ONE LETTER GRADE EACH DAY AFTER THE DUE DATE. It will count for 25 points in your final grade. Please read the appropriate section in Part I of the course notes on how to write an argumentative paper. Your final draft of the paper along with the research proposal and the progress report should be turned in in a paper form in my mailbox, SH 218. It should have: 1. A cover with your name and the topic chosen 2. A title (not the topic) 3. pages numbers and word count. I will not accept papers unless they are under the format required. TOPICS:
